I didn't realize grief would become the language that taught me how to create.
HENNA ARTIST, PAINTER, ALCHEMIST
Years ago, my mom told me, “With art you speak the most ancient language in the world”…
Peace y’all! My name is Aminah (or “Ace”) & I am a henna artist, painter, & alchemist. I began AceHenna just after quarantine in 2021. I started doing hennas out of pure curiosity & the desire for tattoos before I could legally get them in high school. But the art form became something more to me as I realized its cultural significance within my heritage as a Lebanese & African-American woman. I don’t know much of my Lebanese roots, but henna was something that just clicked for me, & has allowed me the space to experience more of this practice of adornment within various spaces, cultures & environments. It’s ancestral. It’s sacred.
I’ve found that through the experience of sharing space with someone for henna, it feels like the intentional & sacred space I feel while painting, but with this, the canvas (you) talks back, & I enjoy it.
Years ago, my Mother told me that “With art, you speak the most ancient language in the world,” the language of the soul. I didn’t understand that fully, until her transition to the ancestral in 2023. Painting became more than something I did for fun, it became my way of sharing what I couldn’t put into words.
THE LANGUAGE BEHIND MY HEALING
Through my solo exhibitions since my mother’s transition, The Face of a Rebellion (2023) & The Show on Love (2025), I’ve been able to see how that pain was turned into alchemy, that vulnerability turned into a sort of “gold” that can be felt & experienced by others too. So, I continue to share, & expand, & grow with what comes. AceHenna, amidst various environments, is aimed at fostering sacred space for individuals through the ancestral art of henna and various expressions of visual art through space and time. Ultimately, I hope my art makes you feel, & I hope it encourages you to move towards a free-er you (as I do the same).

BTS OF MY LIFE
The Heart of My Practice
LEARNING TO FLOW
I’m at a point of transition for myself now, just having graduated college & moving into the world as an artist. I know there are challenges to come, but having moved through the past three years without my mother by my side in the physical.. It’s shown me there’s more to be gained in flowing with the waves of life, than trying to stay afloat all the time.
Over the past three years, I’ve learned to not rush, and in doing so, to pay attention to all that is around me. These experiences have opened me to love I didn’t know possible, through friends, family, clients, etc! I’m able to experience genuine connection even through quick interactions like a henna at a market that only lasts a few moments. I’m able to flow, and constantly reminded of the importance of also allowing things to be released (just as we do our henna designs), so that I can accept more as it comes.
